STEEL WORKS
Works in AutoCad through R2000*!
STEEL SHAPES ON THE FLY
Better Than Any Library: CONSTRUCT STEEL SHAPES ONSCREEN
With STEELWORKS software, from Palisades Research, you'll generate
steel shapes precisely as you need them. All 1092 AISC shapes are
possible in 11 categories: HP, M, S, W, MT, ST, WT, Angles, Channels,
Piping, and Tubes. Best of all you'll create your shape by specifying
its parameters in an onscreen dialog box that actually displays the
shape as it comes together. SteelWorks creates all legal sizes in cross
section, plan view, left and right elevation or in AME solid models.
- Create 2D section, plan and elevation. 3D wireframe and 3D solid shapes.
- Parametrically generate over 1,000 steel shapes defined in AISC steel manual.
- Steel shapes include I-Beams (HP, M, S, W); Tees (MT, ST, WT); Angles
(L); Channels (C, MC); Piping (P, PX, PXX); and Rectangular Tubing (TS).
- Straightforward, flexible dialogue interface makes you productive immediately.
- Supports AutoCad R12, R13 and R14, DOS or Windows platforms.
- *(In AutoCAD 2000 only, round shapes are limited to section plan views, everything else is as shown above)
How It Works
Once you've chosen your standard shape and size, you can set specific
parameters by choosing dialog box options. For example, the depth,
width, flange, web and fillet of the beam. The linetype used to draw
it, it's layer and scale. Specify whether it's hatched, and if so, the
pattern, scale and rotation. Also, specify whether to show curve/end
breaks or hidden lines on the plan and elevation views. For piping, set
the diameter and wall size; for tubing, the wall size only. Set the
insertion point to top, middle or bottom. Beam length can be typed in or
specified by selecting points in your drawing.
Changes to shape, orientation, and insertion point are reflected in
the display, so you'll always know what you're working with. Basic
settings for any number of beams can be saved to configuration files,
and then recalled for later use in any drawing at any time.
Main SteelWorks dialog box . . .
- Steel Members include HP, M, S, W, MT, ST, WT, L, C, MC, P, PX, PXX, and TS shapes.
- Appropriate AISC sizes for each steel member.
- AISC detail dimensions provided for the selected size; alter them if you desire.
- Orientations include 2D and 3D Section, Plan, Left and Right Elevation, and 3D Solid.
- Insertion point options at top, middle or bottom of the steel member.
- Sample image graphically reflects your steel member, orientation, and insertion point options.
Flexible SteelWorks settings include . . .
- Layer upon which the steel member is created.
- Scale factor applied to the steel member.
- Whether or not to show hidden lines on plan and elevation views. And if so, the layer and linetype to be used for hidden lines.
- Whether or not to apply curved end breaks on plan and elevation views.
- Whether or not to hatch section views. And if so, the hatch layer, pattern, scale and rotation.
- Save SteelWorks settings to a configuration file to be used as defaults.
